Il “Resurrection Day” di Silvio Amelio è un’espressione duratura della vicinanza dimostrata dall’Italia dopo il più devastante attacco nella storia dello Stato di New York. I cittadini del nostro Stato apprezzeranno per sempre l’accoglienza e il supporto offerto dagli amici di tutto il mondo in seguito a un giorno di tale perdita e profonda tristezza che ha cambiato la vita di tutti gli americani. Oggi siamo grati per la forza trovata nella compassione offerta dalle persone di Scala così come da molti altri italiani, in questo giorno di riaffermazione della pace e libertà del mondo.

È indubbio che abbiamo subito una grande perdita, ma da subito abbiamo capito che non eravamo soli. Io ero a New York al nono piano delle Twin Towers per prendere parte alla conferenza alla quale l’università mi aveva fatto partecipare. Improvvisamente fu l’inferno sulla terra, il male aveva assunto il volto dell’uomo. Oggigiorno, quando ripenso a ciò che accadde, vedo molti cambiamenti. Cambiamenti nella vita di tutti i newyorkesi. Adesso la gente è diventata più affabile, più disponibile, facile da avvicinare e desiderosa di dare un mano.

We are still grateful for the strength the Scala company gave us through their compassionate feelings, just like a lot of other Italians did. On this day we reassert our commitment to peace and freedom in the world.

Unquestionably we experienced a major loss but we knew we were not alone right from the beginning. September the 11th, 2001 I was on the 9th fl oor of the Twin Towers at a conference my University had sent me to attend whensuddenly it was like hell on earth, as if Evil had taken on a human appearance. Nowadays when I think of what happened, I can see a number of changes, changes which have affected the lives of all New Yorkers. People are more open, more available, easier to get close to, willing to help.
