“Scala incontra New York” è ormai una realtà che illumina l’intera Costiera Amalfitana. Una rassegna di eventi che attraverso la memoria desidera segnare nuovi percorsi per il futuro, consapevoli del passato, con i piedi nel presente e uno sguardo di speranza per l’avvenire. La manifestazione è nata intorno all’inaugurazione del primo monumento dedicato alla memoria delle vittime di quel terribile 11 settembre 2001 a New York, opera dell’artista Silvio Amelio ora posto in maniera stabile in Piazza Municipio. Gli appuntamenti che ci hanno visto protagonisti in questi ultimi anni ci hanno edificato con le riflessioni proposte da autorevoli esponenti della cultura; il riferimento va a coloro che hanno creato questo ponte ideale, pensiamo a Marty Markowitz, vicesindaco di New York, alla testimonianza di Robert Mc Namara, già ministro della Difesa durante la Presidenza Kennedy, ancora ad Amii Advincula, sopravvissuta al tragico attentato delle Twin Towers, a Peter Ruta, pittore statunitense ospite quest’anno, che in quelle torri ha perso tutti i suoi lavori.

The “Scala incontra New York” (Scala meets New York) event has become a star of the Amalfi Coast. A series of events outlining the future, treading memory paths, aware of the past, with a foot in the present and a glance
of hope if the time to come. The event started with the inauguration of the first monument to the memory of the victims of that terrible September the 11th 2001 in New York, by Silvio Amelio, and which now stands in the
Piazza del Municipio, the Town Hall Square. Appointments have followed over the years building upon the thoughts of men and women from the world of culture, such as Marty Markowitz, Deputy Mayor of New York, Robert Mc Namara, former Defense Secretary under President Kennedy, George E. Pataki, former Governor of the State of New York and current US representative at the UN, or again Ami Advincula, survivor of the Twin Towers and Peter Ruta, US painter and this year’s guest, who lost all his work in the Twin Towers.
